Hard Living Kids
HKL, is the youth affiliate of the powerful Hard Living gans, that controls a great deal of the arms and drugs traffic in the poorest communities of Cape Town Townships. In numerous townships across the western Cape youth are made to believe they are nothing until they have joined a gang, wich often serves as a surrogate family. This is the story of Schoolboy and Richie Gee, two young ex-gangsters whom the authors met in prison in 1997 while running workshops for incarcerated juveniles. Now, after more than two years this youg men are trying to adjust to the stigmatisation that exists within the communities to which they have returned.
